Livestreaming events enables more people to be involved in the live action no matter where they are. Last weekend we were delighted to achieve our biggest livestream broadcast event yet at the Bideford Soapbox Derby.
As Bideford High Street became a racetrack for all manner of crazy creations, our team worked to ensure that the thousands of people at the event and online were able to watch the footage from the beginning of the track, right to the finish line.
With three cameras capturing the action, we were able to stream the footage live to two large screens at the top and bottom of the track as well as live on Facebook to people all over the world. This meant that anyone could watch the 50 teams taking part in the fun-filled event which saw them hurtling down Bideford High Steet navigating ramps, chicanes and the notorious ‘dead man’s corner’, in their soapbox contraptions.

Camera operator Jake looks up the track ready for the next Soapbox.
Our Founder and Creative Director, Seth Conway was directing the show, vision mixing the three cameras to ensure everyone saw the action as it happened. He said “We were proud to support this fantastic and entertaining community event. All of this was in aid of Chemohero to raise money for the charity and thousands of pounds was raised, which is brilliant. The livestream also included adverts from local businesses to help keeps costs down for organisers and those ads have so far reached 50,000 people on Facebook with YouTube to come.”
The title for the fastest Soapbox went to G.S. Construct with their speedy trike that clocked an impressive 25.99 seconds to complete the course. A. W. Hockin’s noisy lorry finished second in 26.22 seconds with West End Precision narrowly in third place at 26.64 seconds.
Rebecca Edwards, Event Organiser from Out of This World Events, told us: “We are delighted with how the day went and how much money was raised for Chemohero. This was the third year we have done this and each year it gets bigger and better with more teams involved and more spectators cheering them on. Thank you to the team at Seth Conway Media for making it possible for not just the crowds on the day to see the event on the big screens, but for people across the world to see the livestream. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!”
A big thank you to Airband for sponsoring the big screens and livestream. The broadband company which is expanding its network in the region also provided an ultrafast fibre line for the streaming with an upload speed of a whopping 824 Mbps!
‘Livestreaming is a great and inclusive way to involve more people in your event,’ explains Seth. ‘We’ve livestreamed football matches, team meetings and staff conferences. It means that companies, organisations and charities can spread their messages wider and reach more people, especially businesses who want to brief colleagues around the UK and the world and need decent sound as well as vision.”
Anyone who missed the event can watch on Bideford Soapbox Derby’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Bidefordsoapboxderby and next year’s event is on July 7th 2024.
